AT&T Announces Official iPhone 3G Pricing and Plans

 iPhone 3G

If you are an owner of the first generation iPhone who was considering upgrading to the iPhone 3G, the day is getting close. When the iPhone 3G was announced the 8GB model was to be $199 and the 16GB was going to be $299.

Now we are finding out that original iPhone owners will be eligible for upgrades at the $199 price for the 8GB version and $299 for the 16GB version. AT&T customers looking to upgrade to the new iPhone 3G will get hit for much higher prices.

In fact, AT&T is going to add $200 to the price of both iPhone 3G models for existing customers with handsets not eligible for upgrades and require a new 2-year agreement. That will make it hard for some non-upgrade eligble handset owners to stomach the iPhone 3G.

Actually, the Engadget post says this in the notes:

“iPhone 3G will be available for $199 (8GB) and $299 (16GB) for iPhone customers who purchased an iPhone prior to 7/11, customers activating a new line with AT&T and current AT&T customers who are eligible for an upgrade”

So, I don’t think they are screwing early adopters any more than everyone else.

Now, early UPGRADERS are the ones that get the shaft. If you are in the middle of a non-iPhone contract expect to pay the prices mentioned above.
