Toyota Unveils Winglet Mobility Robot

 Toyota Winglet

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announced today that it was developing what it calls a Personal Transport Assistance Robot known as Winglet. TMC says that it is still in the process of refining the Winglet and it plans the device to be a small and compact robot that will offer ease of movement and expand a user’s range of mobility.

I can’t tell from that description if it intends the Winglet to be a scooter for the masses to use rather than a car, or if this is one sort of assistance device for those with problems walking like the elderly. At any rate, TMC has created three different Winglet models that only vary in how tall they are. The height difference for the models is from the different length handles used that give riders something to grasp.

Walt Mossberg is certainly one of the most elite technology journalists on the planet. He has two columns focusing on personal technology in The Wall Street Journal and edits a third. More importantly he gets to be the first geek in the country to play with the new toys more often than not.

Last week I mentioned a study that put a price on Mossberg’s influence in the technology world. This week we find out that Mossberg has now signed up for his own show on FOX Business Network. Mossberg’s weekly show will air Thursday mornings at 11:00 AM ET and the first show will air tomorrow.

 WiQuest Wireless USB PIN Association

Wireless USB devices are soon going to be widely available and will cut the cables that make a mess of our offices and computer desks. Before we know it we will be connecting devices like our digital cameras, MP3 players, printers and more to our computers without any cables for transferring data to and from the computer and device.

WiQuest is one of the leading technology companies working with Wireless USB hardware and specifications. Today WiQuest announced that it has enabled a new Wireless USB PIN association method that is designed to allow low cost devices without a USB cable, USB port or display to connect to a host PC via Wireless USB.

Mozilla Grabs Official World Record for Most Downloads with Firefox 3

Last month Mozilla launched its anticipated Firefox 3 web browser. Mozilla also announced that it wanted to set a record for the most downloads in the first 24 hours of a software product being offered. Guinness World Records audited the downloads of the software for the first 24 hours and announced today that Firefox 3 had set the record.

Firefox 3 was downloaded a total of 8,002,530 times in its first 24 hours of availability. That number is the official number after automated downloads and duplicate users were removed. Even though Firefox 3 set the download record, it still pales in comparison of market share to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.

OCZ Makes SSDs Affordable Somehow

by Shane McGlaun posted July 1st, 2008 Tags: ,
OCZ Core Series SATA II 2.5-inch SSD

As the late George Carlin once pointed out, some words just don’t go together, like military intelligence. Other words that just don’t go together are affordable Solid State Drives. SSDs simply aren’t affordable, which is one of the major reasons we don’t see a massive adoption of SSDs in consumer notebooks and desktops.

Somehow OCZ has devised a way to make the SSD affordable. OCZ has announced a new line of Core Series SATA II 2.5-inch SSDs that will retail for about half the price of similar SSDs on the market. OCZ will be selling a 128GB SSD that will be priced at $479. Two other capacities will also be offered with a 64GB SSD going for $259 and a 32GB SSD going for $169.
